The American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) and the American Heartworm Society have announced a joint campaign, funded by an educational grant from Pfizer Animal Health, to promote awareness of the danger of heartworm disease in cats. The KNOW Heartworms campaign, launched at the North American Veterinary Conference, is a public awareness initiative to educate veterinarians and cat owners about the threat of heartworm disease and the importance of prevention. Clinic kits were distributed to AAFP members. If you wish to obtain a kit, please visit www.knowheartworms.org

As the latest statistics show an increase in the cat population coupled with a continued decline in veterinary visits for cats, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, with initial underwriting from Pfizer Animal Health, will be launching the CATalyst Summit. It will take place Feb. 5-6, 2008, in conjunction with the AAFP Winter Meeting in Palm Springs, California.  The purpose of this initial planning meeting is to design a baseline framework to unite in an unprecedented campaign. The ultimate goal is to lead a national initiative to champion the cat and elevate its status across North America.  This event is by Invitation Only.

FELINE BEHAVIORAL GUIDELINES

Behavior is the most neglected of the veterinary specialties, yet there is no aspect of any condition that does not have a behavior component. These guidelines are intended to inspire practitioners to incorporate behavior medicine into all aspects of feline healthcare so that behavior problems cease to be the biggest reason people abandon, euthanatize, or relinquish their cats.  View the document
