General Principles of Feline Welfare KNOW HEARTWORMS The AAFP and American Heartworm Society's joint campaign to raise awareness about Heartworm Associated Respiratory Disease- HARD- kicked off the second half of 2007 at the American Heartworm Society Triennial Symposium, and AVMA Annual Convention in Washington, D.C. on July 13-18. New information about the severe pulmonary disease caused by circulating immature heartworms was presented by researchers from Australia, Italy, Spain, and various institutions in the US. Experts advised year-round preventative even in indoors and outdoors cats in any region where heartworm infection exists in dogs. has joined the initiative to promote the first annual World Rabies Day on
September 8, 2007. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS for FELLOW Representative to the AAFP Board Nominations for the position of Fellows Representative on the AAFP board are now being solicited from the Fellow members of the American Association of Feline Practitioners until August 30.
Nominations are open to Fellow members who have an interest in serving on
the AAFP Executive Board and are active Fellow members for the past three
years. Self-nominations and nominations of others are acceptable. The
nomination should be submitted with the name and contact information of
your nominee to email address:

Congratulations to Dr. Catherine Lund!
She owns the City Kitty Veterinary Care for Cats in Providence, RI. She created the Companion Animal Foundation which has distributed more than $80,000 to support the care of the pets of low-income owners. She has also helped develop and produce a film that showcases RI veterinarians as they explain proper pet care to a middle school audience. CatVets.com WEBSITE UPDATE Development of the new Feline Practitioners website continues. Member volunteers are still needed to coordinate content for the new Cat Health Topics area of the site.
