April 2007 Here's what the AAFP has for you this month!

FOOD RECA
LL EXPANDS!

On March 30th, Hill's Pet Nutrition issued a voluntary recall on M/D dry
(http://www.hillspet.com/menu_foods/Menu_Foods_03302007_en_US.htm).

The AVMA website has up-to-date information on the latest developments with a new potential toxin found:
http://www.avma.org/aa/menufoodsrecall/breaking_news_070330a.asp

If you have an opportunity to address the public through your local media, please remember to focus your message on: Calming the public; Getting sick pets to a veterinarian; Re-establishing confidence in commercially available pet foods known to be safe; Letting the public know that everything is being done to find and correct the cause; Finally - whatever the real or additional cause is determined to be, the family veterinarian stands ready for diagnosis and treatment!

Join us for AAFP ROUNDS on VIN

All members are invited to attend our LIVE AAFP rounds discussions. If you still need a VIN username and password for complimentary access, please email Dr. Sherri Williams ( wileydvm@aol.com ) with the words "AAFP Rounds" in the subject heading.

AAFP IN THE NEWS

The "Know Heartworms" Campaign is pushing forward to educate even more veterinarians and cat owners about the risk of feline heartworm disease. Those attending the AAFP Winter conference in Miami were privvy to some incidence studies, and learned the prevalence was higher than expected (i.e. my state of Illinois was about 15%). Help the AAFP spread the word about the Know Heartworms campaign!
